So Far Darfur

Towards the end of 2007 a national campaign So Far Darfur (Tot zover Darfur) had been organised in the Netherlands. The campaign should raise the awareness amongst the general public about the war in Darfur and about the atrocities against civilians. The objective is to put pressure on the political authorities for more and effective peace initiatives concerning Darfur. The media have paid much attention to this campaign. A number of events took place in various cities. On several occasions the documentary The Devil Came on Horseback was shown. During a commemoration of the 1938 Kristallnacht in camp Westerbork, which had been used during World War II to imprison Jewish refugees in expectation of their deportation to Auschwitz, the killings in Darfur were highlighted.

In order to draw the attention to the campaign, photographer Hans Guldemond has made a series of pictures of people wearing a T-shirt with the campaign logo.
